Launching COMO Fly Co
It was a whirlwind of a spring with the official launch of COMO Fly. For the past several years I’ve been guiding friends, family, and anyone willing to join on float trips targeting Ozark smallmouth bass; an experience that’s brought me more passion to this sport than I ever could have imagined. Sharing the raw beauty of these Ozark waterways is what COMO Fly Co is all about!
We hit the ground running with a booth at the COMO Man Show on May 15. It was a great turnout and alot of fun getting to show Columbia, MO what COMO Fly CO is all about. A highlight of the show was getting the opportunity to explain the detailed process of combining feathers, bucktail, and thread to create flies.
The next time you can find COMO Fly Co Hand-Tied Flies will be at the upcoming Art in the Park (https://columbiaartleague.org/artinthepark/home). Started in 1959, Art in the Park is the oldest and largest fine arts festival in Mid-Missouri. I have long compared fly tying to “sewing for men” so we’re looking forward to showcasing the fine art of fly tying!
Fishing-wise has been a game of dodging the wind, storms, and floods while searching for 1-2 hour windows later in the day that become productive as the water warms. The bite has been picky, having us changing patterns and colors until settling on something that works, which has recently been the all-white Double Deceiver. When it turns on it’s been on, with several nice fish coming from fishing deep & slow, including the gorgeous fish pictured here.
We’re looking forward to warmer temps that should bring happy fish and top-water bite that is soon to come. With only a handful of dates left in June be sure to save your fishing date ASAP! As a reminder only a $100 deposit is required to secure a date, with remainder due at time of trip.
End of May and all of June can be the most productive smallmouth fishing- we look forward to getting out there with you!
